THE SJI WAY
There are three primary components to the program:
- Monastic Foundation
- Education
- Culture and Community
MONASTIC FORMATION
PRAYER AND LITURGY
The uniting force of our formation flows from the students participation in the Catholic liturgy.
- Ability to draw life from Daily Mass, Holy Hour and Liturgy of the Hours chanted with the Brothers
- Awareness of the importance and power of liturgy for evangelization
- Ability to utilize and adapt the Church’s contemplative tradition to the demands of modern living
FORMATIONAL STRUCTURE
Participation in the spiritual life of the Congregation of St. John
- Following the daily prayer schedule of the Brothers’ Priory
- Sharing in a weekly meal with the Brothers and occasional festivities
- Tutoring, outings, shared apostolates with the Brothers
- Philosophy and Theology classes taught by the Brothers
COMMUNAL LIVING
Year 1
- Men’s and Women’s households of up to six
- Shared meals, chores, and prayer
Year 2
- Apartments of two or three
- Greater autonomy and life-skills training
EDUCATION
Our formation will intellectually equip our students for their mission:
- MBA degree through Walsh University with supporting coursework in nonprofit management and entrepreneurship
- Philosophy and Theology with Brothers of St. John
- Leadership and life skills for independent living and social skills for building community
- Practical experience through internships
CLASSES, SEMINARS & INTERNSHIPS
In addition to the online MBA courses and additional formation with the Brothers of St. John, students will formed through:
- Occasional business intensives with leading professionals
- Internship opportunities in leadership, marketing, finance, fundraising, and pedagogy with Eagle Eye Ministries
- Annual silent retreat
- Encounters with local artists and culture
- First Year Orientation: three-week backpacking expedition in the Rocky Mountains
CULTURE AND COMMUNITY
Our formation will encompass an appreciation for the fine arts and aim at forming the bases for understanding the value and significance of the arts in forming and transmitting authentic human culture.
